    Description

Zulu Wars Period, C.1870s-80s. Very rare double bowl example reflecting the status of the owner. 6 1/4" length with two tall bag shaped bowls connected with a web extending below as a foot. Each bowl with a thin silver liner, undoubtedly hammered from an English coin. The cylindrical stem mounted with an English composition mouthpiece. The junction made from a section of copper tube. Minor storage deterioration as expected. The English elements were probably acquired before the uprisings or captured during the War. Shared pipe smoking was used for bonding among the Zulu. The Induna would have shared his pipe with a chief rather than warriors. A Zulu treasure from my own collection.
