    NINETEENTH CENTURY
    AFRICAN
    TRIBAL QUIVER
    with
    ARROWS
We offer a late nineteenth century quiver with four arrows from an unknown African tribe. The quiver is crafted from wood and covered with a sheath of animal skin which has been sewn by hand along the length. The upper area of the quiver has been decorated with a diamond band painted in a dark stain contrasting to the brown of the hide. Below the painted band are two raised rings which were either carved into the wood or added as material beneath the hide. The lower areas of the quiver are painted with the dark stain.
The quiver has lost its strap but the areas of attachment are intact.
The four arrows are bamboo with hand wrought metal heads in an unusual fish tail motif. The metal tips and shafts are bound to the bamboo shafts by animal gut.
The quiver measures 21 5/6" in length with an opening approximately 2" in diameter.
Three of the arrows measure 23 3/8" in length and one arrow measures 22 3/8" in length.
